capitec outage on pay day

Capitec Bank customers woke up to a shock when they checked their banking app in the early hours of “Pay Day” Tuesday, only to find that their balances reflected zero. Angry clients took to social media, expressing frustration with the bank’s failure to provide a safe and reliable service. As per Swisher Post, reports indicate that some users couldn’t even view their balances. In contrast, others couldn’t access their salaries deposited into their accounts that day.

Capitec Bank has yet to issue a statement. Still, its social media team apologised for the inconvenience, explaining that the app had intermittent issues. The team advised users to restart their devices and recheck their balances.

According to Down Detector, users reported problems with Capitec shortly after midnight on Tuesday, with issues spiking at around 05:43. Users said problems with mobile and online banking and in-app transfers.

This technical error has happened before. Capitec Bank has experienced other technical difficulties this year. In March, the bank’s customers were left in the dark when it revoked access to its banking app. In August 2022, users complained about receiving “insufficient funds” messages when transacting at ATMs via online banking. The bank acknowledged the issue and took two days to fix the problem.
