A brutal murder occurred during a business robbery in Marapong, Limpopo, where a 61-year-old gas store owner lost his life.

According to IOL, the murder took place around 1 a.m. on Monday, as reported by Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

Six individuals, aged between 30 and 40, were apprehended on the same day. Their arrest followed an intelligence-led operation involving members of the crime intelligence unit, task team, K-9 unit, detectives, and collaboration with private security firms, Ledwaba explained.

Initial investigations revealed that five assailants forcibly entered a gas cylinder store. During the robbery, the owner heard noises and inspected the situation.

The police gathered intelligence and received information indicating that the suspects were travelling in a convoy of two trucks and one towed SUV along the R33 road, heading toward Vaalwater and Modimolle.

Additionally, the authorities confiscated the three vehicles involved in the crime.

Ledwaba disclosed that one of the suspects is a Gauteng businessman who owns a gas cylinder store.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, praised the swift reaction of the police officers and the excellent coordination that led to the arrest of the suspected killers and the recovery of stolen items.

The arrested group comprises five foreign nationals and one South African, who will soon appear before their magistrate’s courts in Limpopo. They face business robbery, murder, and possession of suspected stolen property. Hadebe warned potential criminals that the province would not be a playground for illicit activities.
