South Africa’s Bryoni Govender Secures Top 10 Spot in Miss Universe 2023: A Voice for Change

Earning recognition on the global stage, South Africa’s Bryoni Govender (26) has successfully secured a spot in the Miss Universe 2023 ‘Voice for Change’ Top 10 finals. The announcement was made during the 72nd Miss Universe preliminary competition in El Salvador on November 15, unveiling the silver finalists. Govender, alongside contestants from Angola, Brazil, Chile, Lebanon, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Ukraine, and Zimbabwe, will now vie for the coveted ‘Voice for Change’ gold.

The ‘Voice for Change’ initiative, in collaboration with Mouawad, CI Talk, and the Miss Universe Organization, aims to spotlight causes supported by this year’s contestants, offering a platform for positive change. The finalists, selected by a distinguished panel and public votes, will participate in a social impact video contest aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Bryoni Govender, a force for change, champions the ‘Her Way Out Campaign,’ focusing on advocating women’s rights and collaborating with Norton Rose Fulbright for access to justice projects. Additionally, she serves as an ambassador for Lawyers Against Abuse (LvA). The competition’s winners will be revealed during the Miss Universe final in El Salvador on Sunday, November 19.

South Africans can support Govender by voting through the official Miss Universe app. The final event will be broadcast live on S3 (DStv 193) on November 19 at 3 am, with a repeat at 7:30 pm on the same day.
