BRICS Nations to Convene for Discussions on the Israel-Palestine Conflict
The BRICS countries will meet virtually to discuss the Israel-Palestine conflict today.
SANews reports that the meeting, led by President Cyril Ramaphosa, includes leaders from:
- Brazil,
- Russia,
- India,
- China,
- Saudi Arabia,
- Argentina,
- Egypt,
- Ethiopia,
- Iran, and
- the UAE.
Ramaphosa will address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The meeting aims to form a joint statement on the Middle East situation.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres will participate in the virtual meeting with leaders to address the conflict’s urgent concerns.
The expected outcomes include a joint statement focusing on Gaza, reflecting the leaders’ collective stance on the crisis.
Israel and Palestine have experienced significant casualties. Around 1,200 deaths occurred in Israel and 11,000 in Gaza since October 7.
In his weekly newsletter, President Ramaphosa reiterated South Africa’s call for justice, immediate cessation of hostilities, and accountability for civilian deaths.
