Man Arrested for Allegedly Dousing Girlfriend and Her Friend with Petrol, Setting Them Alight
Authorities have apprehended the boyfriend implicated in the harrowing incident where his girlfriend and her friend were doused with petrol and set alight. According to IOL, Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi stated that the suspect was taken into custody on Monday. He will appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court. The individual will face charges of murder, attempted murder, and arson. The victims, Marishka David, 30, and Zakkiyah Raymond, 38, were attacked in Florida on the West Rand. It’s reported that the arrested man had been in a relationship with David. Sadly, Raymond succumbed to her injuries on Sunday following the brutal attack. Mandy, David’s mother, revealed that her daughter, still hospitalised, remains unaware of her friend’s passing. Describing the horrific incident, Mandy recounted, “While they were sleeping, he threw them with petrol and set them alight.” She expressed her intent to attend the court proceedings.
In a separate case this week, a 38-year-old man was convicted of rape. Nkosinathi Thwala received his life sentence in the Ermelo Regional Court on Monday. According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the rape occurred in March 2019 in the Sun City informal settlement. The victim, walking home from school, was lured by the accused to his shack. The NPA spokesperson stated, “He raped her and gave her a R10 note. When the victim arrived home, her mother noticed the money and asked her about it.” The young girl bravely disclosed the assault, identifying the perpetrator and his residence.
