Residents in Boksburg North are expressing frustration over the continued closure of the crumbling Boksburg North pool, adding to the grievances already aired towards the city’s management of public pool facilities. Despite expectations for the Boksburg North pool to reopen this season, delays persist due to necessary repairs not being completed. The Eastern Gauteng Aquatics (EGA) confirmed that funding delays hinder the much-needed repairs, leaving patrons needing access to the facility.

Originally scheduled to reopen on September 1, the pool’s closure stems from longstanding issues with heat pumps and pump motors and structural leaks impacting water quality and safety. The prolonged closure has drawn criticism from local swim teams, professionals, and residents, who lament the loss of access to essential aquatic facilities. Residents have voiced their disappointment and concern over the city’s failure to maintain public pools, highlighting broader frustrations with municipal service delivery.

Many recall fond memories of the pool’s vibrant past and express dismay at its disrepair. As frustrations mount, residents call on local authorities to prioritise repairing and reopening public pools for the community’s benefit.
