Axel – the market-hopping bulldog

Markets are the best places to meet and engage with cool, interesting people – most of whom bring their dogs along for the experience.

Elisha Gujrajah and her bulldog Axel stood out at the Field Market, Gujrajah for wearing red, and Axel for being full of energy and quite large for a seven-month-old.

“He and I have been together for six months; he was a little smaller, but he is a big breed,” Gujrajah said, reigning in Axel. Just a few moments later, Axel was eager to continue his adventure through the market.

Although from North Riding, Gujrajah and Axel are no strangers to the market scene in northern Johannesburg.

“He enjoys it when I take him to any market or the park. These types of markets; like the Fourways farmer’s market, and Linden market.”

Axel’s excitement to keep his walk going became undeniable when he rose again, energised, and ready to keep walking.

“He doesn’t like wearing clothing, he enjoys liver biltong – and gets some every day, and he has many toys,” Gujrajah had to conclude hurriedly, as Axel had decided it was time to go. “His favourite is a rope toy which he can tug on.”

In that moment, Axel’s love for the tug rope made sense, as he pulled Gujrajah off into the rest of their afternoon.
