A terrifying armed robbery in Alexandra left 15 people wounded after robbers violently attacked residents. The perpetrators stole valuable items and opened fire, causing injuries. 12 individuals, primarily youths from KwaZulu-Natal, await trial for their involvement.

According to SABC News, the alarming crime rate in Gauteng has risen by 7.1% in the third quarter. Alexandra and other townships are crime hotspots, posing security challenges.

Gauteng police commissioner Elias Mawela points out the S’tswetla informal settlement in Alexandra as one of the most affected areas. Among incidents, an individual known as “School Bag” was suspected of multiple criminal activities, including losing a patroller.

To address the escalating crime, the police call on the community to assist in identifying the suspect. Engagement and cooperation are essential in bringing perpetrators to justice.

However, recent events saw a dark side of vigilante justice in S’tswetla. Angry residents stoned and burned five suspected criminals, reflecting growing frustration with crime’s impact.

The authorities are deeply concerned about the rise of mob justice incidents and urge residents to work with law enforcement agencies.

The Alexandra community’s safety is paramount, requiring unity among stakeholders to combat crime and restore peace and security to the township. The incident highlights the urgent need for comprehensive efforts to address crime’s underlying causes and promote safety and justice for all.
