There was another fire in the Johannesburg CBD. The blaze broke out in the basement of the South African Revenue Service premises on Wednesday.

Reports by eNCA say firefighters were swiftly deployed to the scene and successfully evacuated the building. Fortunately, Johannesburg EMS Spokesperson Nana Radebe reported no fatalities or injuries. “They have managed to evacuate everyone that is working at the building, and we will do preliminary investigations of what caused the fire,” she said.

“This is the third building to catch fire in three weeks, sparking concerns over fire safety in the city. Just a few weeks ago, a devastating fire in Marshalltown claimed the lives of at least 77 people. Last week, authorities also responded to a fire in an abandoned building on 1 Delvers Street in Marshalltown, which had shacks built on its ground floor,” she added.

The frequency of these recent fires has raised questions about the adequacy of fire safety measures and the need for increased vigilance in preventing such incidents in the CBD.
