ANC Stages Protest in Support of Palestine Outside Israeli Embassy
The African National Congress (ANC) has organised a picket outside the Israeli embassy in Pretoria to express its support for Palestine. In light of the escalating conflict in the Middle East, this demonstration shows solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The ANC, represented by party spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri, remains committed to advocating for the self-determination of the Palestinians as reported by the SABC News. The recent surge in violence and retaliatory attacks between Israel and Palestine have prompted the picket and other campaign actions.
The initial trigger for this escalation was an unexpected military onslaught by the Palestinian group Hamas two weeks ago. Bhengu-Mutsiri emphasised the longstanding position of the ANC on this issue, calling for peace, negotiations, and a two-state solution to support the self-determination of the Palestinian people. The ANC’s stance has faced criticism from apartheid Israel, but now the global community is increasingly supporting the self-determination of the Palestinians.
In addition to expressing solidarity, the ANC is demanding an end to the violence in the Middle East, particularly amidst the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Sadly, the toll of lives lost exceeds a thousand on both sides since Israel declared war on Hamas two weeks ago. Tragically, attacks on Gaza have disproportionately affected women and children.
Amidst the continuing conflict, Gaza is also facing severe humanitarian challenges. The United Nations and the international community have urgently called for the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Still, Israel has shown reluctance to cooperate with these appeals, exacerbating regional tensions.
