ANC, EFF hit back after ‘Doomsday’ pact accusations
The recent exchange between the ANC and the EFF and city manager Johan Mettler has attracted attention due to a letter addressing alleged misconduct within Tshwane House. Mettler referenced incidents following the termination of ex-mayor Cilliers Brink’s tenure, citing a vote of no confidence on September 27.
DA Tshwane caucus spokesperson Councillor Kwena Moloto expressed concern over videos showing individuals verbally accosting Brink, negatively impacting the Tshwane metro’s image.
Moloto emphasized the importance of municipal employees maintaining professionalism and refraining from involvement in political conflicts. The DA vows to defend the city administration against perceived attacks.
Both the ANC and the EFF have criticized Mettler’s stance on professional standards over political allegiance, viewing it as a precursor to governance changes within Tshwane.
Chief whip Aaron Maluleka of the ANC accused Mettler of political bias, suggesting a lack of impartiality in his role. ANC Secretary George Matjila echoed concerns about Mettler’s perceived partisanship and questioned his leadership approach.
In response, the EFF condemned Mettler’s actions, alleging intimidation of staff challenging the status quo and criticizing his leadership style.
The EFF emphasized the right of workers to hold leaders accountable without fear and criticized what they labeled as a dictatorial approach by Mettler.
