Alberton Boxing Club Trio shine at SA Championships
The Alberton Boxing Club’s talented trio, Jacques du Plooy, Kiara Kilfoil, and Karien Els, demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship at the recent SA Championships held in Tzaneen, Limpopo. Coached by Pieter Strydom, they proudly represented the Gauteng team, competing against elite boxers from across nine provinces.
During the championships, Karien Els stood out by securing the gold medal in the school-age category (66kg). Kiara Kilfoil achieved a commendable bronze in the junior girls’ category (66kg), while Jacques du Plooy competed in the junior boys’ category (57kg) and reached the quarterfinals.
Gauteng’s junior team attained a notable second-place finish, with the school-age team achieving third place. The province’s overall exceptional performance led to them being awarded the trophy for the best-organised province.
