Airlink Suspends Johannesburg to Entebbe Flights
Effective Monday, August 28, Airlink has officially withdrawn its services from the Johannesburg-Entebbe route. The decision, as announced by the airline’s CEO and Managing Director, Rodger Foster, is primarily attributed to the commercial non-viability of the route, a result of insufficient traffic volumes as reported by Travel news.

Before the impact of COVID-19, Airlink had been operating the Johannesburg-Entebbe route exclusively six times a week, demonstrating sustainable viability. Following the reopening of Uganda and South Africa’s markets for intra-African travel in September 2021, Airlink resumed services with four weekly flights on the route. Despite diligent efforts to stimulate traffic between the two cities, post-COVID demand in both directions remained weak, and traffic volumes were insufficient to support competing airlines.
Airlink has taken proactive steps to address the situation by contacting ticket-holders affected by the route discontinuation. The airline offers full refunds or the option to re-route passengers on one of its daily flights to Nairobi, with onward connections to Entebbe.
Foster emphasised that Airlink remains attentive to market dynamics and expressed readiness to re-enter the route once traffic volumes can sustain competition between airlines.
