Dr Nasiphi Moya, the acting mayor of Tshwane, and metro teams undertook community service in Mamelodi on October 1 as part of the integrated urban management programme.

Moya and the teams actively participated in community clean-ups, grass cutting, and tree watering to enhance the urban environment.

The integrated urban management programme, a monthly initiative, involves various teams working together to address community needs.

Teams were deployed in regions 1, 4, 5, and 7 before focusing on wards 8, 16, and 18 in Mamelodi.

The efforts in Mamelodi included initiatives such as cleaning along roads, fixing potholes, addressing street light malfunctions, and resolving issues with the water supply.

Moyo emphasized that resources were dedicated to rectifying long-standing community concerns, particularly regarding street lights and water supply.

The programme, led by internal Tshwane officials and including artisans, EPWP members, technicians, and waste management personnel, prioritizes community engagement and capacity building.

Efforts are directed towards enhancing internal metro capacity and collaborating closely with ward councillors to ensure effective service delivery.

Region 6’s focus under the programme includes addressing illegal dumping, with a plea to communities to cease littering and actively participate in community upliftment initiatives.

Communities are encouraged to take ownership of vacant spaces through programmes like ‘Adopt a spot’ for community benefit.
