An unemployed mother from Johannesburg has won the largest Powerball jackpot of the year, amounting to R75 million, despite being an occasional player of the lottery games. She and her husband picked the winning numbers for the March 17 draw, leading to a life-changing moment as reported by IOL.

According to National Lottery Ithuba, the fortunate winner bought her ticket at Spar Kingfisher. She revealed that she played the lottery games sporadically and only when she could. “I checked the results at home and realised that I had won, I became very excited,” she shared.

After safely keeping her ticket in her bag, the woman went to Ithuba’s office to claim her winnings. She intends to purchase a house and invest in her children’s education with her newfound fortune. “Winning the PowerBall jackpot means I can live comfortably,” she remarked. Ithuba CEO Charmaine Mabuza congratulated the winner, adding, “We at Ithuba are thrilled to have another PowerBall multimillionaire who has won the highest jackpot of 2023 so far. We eagerly anticipate sharing this experience with future winners.”

In a separate story, a pensioner from Gqeberha won R23 million in the Powerball Plus draw on March 14. The former delivery driver realised his luck while watching TV.
