From Local Club to Pro Ambitions: Dylan Venter’s Rugby Journey at Diggers

Published

on

At just 19, Dylan Venter is making waves in the rugby world, pushing hard to make his dream of a professional rugby career come true. Currently honing his skills at Diggers Rugby Club in Randburg, Dylan’s journey is one of passion, persistence, and the drive to reach the top.

Growing up, Dylan’s love for rugby was sparked by watching the game on TV. “I fell in love with the passion of it,” he shares. His biggest inspiration? Former Springbok fly-half Patrick Lambie. Dylan admired Lambie’s skill and leadership on the field, and that influence continues to shape his playing style today.

Why Dylan Chose Diggers Rugby Club

For Dylan, choosing Diggers Rugby Club wasn’t random; he wanted a place with a strong commitment to improvement. “The experience here has been amazing,” he says. “I see players, coaches, and the chairperson constantly working to make the club better.” His proudest moment so far? Helping his team go undefeated, winning the league and earning promotion to the Pirates Grand Challenge.

Training Like a Pro: A Glimpse into Dylan’s Routine

Training is key for Dylan. His weekly routine includes three intense gym sessions focused on cardio to keep his fitness at peak levels. On game day, he has a strict warm-up routine to ensure he’s mentally and physically ready. “Once I’m on the field, my mind is all in,” he explains, showing the focus it takes to excel in a sport like rugby.

Taking a gap year has allowed him to focus solely on rugby, making it easier to balance training with personal life. As a leader in the U19 team, he’s embraced the responsibility and is working on new skills, especially in his kicking game. Dylan’s short-term goal is to add extra practice sessions, while his long-term aim is simple: go pro.

Overcoming Challenges and Staying Driven

It hasn’t all been easy. Dylan has faced moments where he felt overlooked, but his determination keeps him going. “I never give up. I keep pushing and have fun with it,” he says. When things don’t go his way, he doesn’t dwell on it; instead, he focuses on the next match, channeling any frustration into his game.

Advice for Aspiring Rugby Players

Outside rugby, Dylan values spending time with friends and family, knowing that balance is essential. For younger players, his advice is straightforward: “Never give up on your dreams. Follow your passion, and always have fun doing it.”

With Dylan’s passion and commitment, his journey to the pros is one to watch.
