The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is urging parents and caregivers to complete online applications for school placements in Grade R, 1, and 8 before the admissions window closes at midnight on Tuesday, 15 April 2025.

The department says applying on time is essential to ensure proper planning for the 2026 school year, as thousands of applications remain outstanding.

“We are appealing to all parents of children entering Grade R, 1, or 8 in 2026 to submit their applications without delay,” said WCED spokesperson Bronagh Hammond. “Applications submitted after the deadline will be treated as late, which may affect placement. Don’t wait—apply today.”

The WCED says timely applications help schools prepare for the number of learners expected in each grade, which supports better allocation of teachers, classrooms, and resources.
