Tragic Love Triangle Ends in Murder and Suspected Suicide in Umzinto

A man identified as “Sibusiso Lawrence” on Facebook, who confessed in a viral video to murdering his girlfriend, was found hanging from a tree in the Malangeni district of Umzinto shortly after the woman’s body was discovered nearby.

The Gruesome Discovery

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda provided chilling details of the incident.

  • On Tuesday evening, police responded to a murder report on a gravel road near Malangeni in Umzinto.
  • The lifeless body of a 25-year-old woman was found lying in the middle of the road, bearing multiple stab wounds. A broken knife was found beside her, adding to the horror of the scene.

“Reports indicate that the suspect fetched the woman, his girlfriend, from her home. It is suspected that a domestic-related argument escalated, leading to the murder,” said Netshiunda.

The Suspect’s Actions

Lawrence allegedly killed the woman inside his car. Blood stains on the front passenger seat corroborated this theory.

After the attack, he abandoned his vehicle a short distance from where the woman’s body was found.

A manhunt was swiftly launched, culminating in the discovery of Lawrence’s body hanging from a tree. Police suspect it was a case of suicide.

“An inquest docket has been opened alongside the murder investigation,” Netshiunda confirmed.

Public Outrage on Social Media

The incident has ignited widespread condemnation on social media, with users expressing their outrage and sorrow.

One X (formerly Twitter) user commented, “The Sibusiso Lawrence situation is a reminder of why I always defend women.”

Another post highlighted the disparity in domestic violence narratives, stating, “Men cheat all the time, have babies with side chicks, but you’ll hardly hear that they killed their boyfriends. Watch those defending Sibusiso Lawrence.”

Calls for Action

The tragic case has reignited discussions about gender-based violence in South Africa, a country plagued by high rates of femicide. Advocacy groups and social media users alike are calling for stronger measures to protect women and address domestic violence at its roots.
