South Africa is observing the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. This global campaign runs from November 25 to December 10. It aims to raise awareness and take action to end gender-based violence (GBV).

Government’s Commitment to Ending GBV

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called GBV a “silent pandemic.” He urges the country to address the root causes and fight patriarchal systems that support violence. Parliament echoes this call, emphasizing the role of men in ending GBV.

Focus on Legislation and Accountability

South Africa has passed laws like the Domestic Violence Amendment Act to tackle GBV. Parliament continues to oversee these laws to ensure they protect women and children. The government is focused on creating a safer environment for all citizens.

Raising Awareness and Inspiring Change

Throughout the 16 Days of Activism, Parliament will engage in social media campaigns and public debates. They aim to raise awareness and promote behavioral change to reduce GBV. A multiparty delegation will visit GBV hotspots to meet survivors and support shelters.

The Ongoing Effort

The fight against GBV doesn’t stop after these 16 days. South Africa’s 365 Days National Action Plan is dedicated to preventing violence year-round. Let’s continue to work together for a safer, more equal society.

Get Involved: Take a stand and support efforts to end GBV. Each action matters in building a future free from violence.
