South Africa has been listed as the fifth most dangerous country in the world to visit in 2025, according to a global database that assesses quality-of-life factors. The latest crime index, which evaluates 147 nations, places South Africa just behind Afghanistan.

The ranking considers several factors, including public perception of safety both during the day and at night, as well as crime reports involving homicide, robbery, and assault. Other elements, such as harassment, discrimination, and burglary, also contribute to the overall score. Among African nations, South Africa holds the highest crime ranking, making it the most dangerous country on the continent for visitors. Nigeria and Angola follow as the second and third riskiest destinations in Africa.

Despite these alarming statistics, South Africa remains a major tourist destination known for its rich culture, wildlife, and scenic landscapes. However, these rankings serve as a reminder for travellers to exercise caution and stay informed about safety risks when visiting the country.
