Sassa beneficiaries who have not yet switched from the gold card to the new Postbank black card have been granted another extension. Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, confirmed that the deadline has been pushed to April 30, 2025, allowing more time for the migration process.

Speaking at a media briefing on the outcomes of a recent cabinet meeting, Ntshavheni explained that the extension was necessary to ensure all outstanding beneficiaries could transition smoothly.

This marks the second deadline extension after it was originally set for February 28, 2025, and then moved to March 20, 2025. Many beneficiaries, particularly elderly recipients, had struggled with long queues and delays in obtaining the new black card, prompting the government to further extend the deadline.

“The deadline for Sassa beneficiaries to swap their Sassa gold card for the Postbank black card has been extended to April 30 to allow Sassa and the Department of Social Development to complete the migration of the outstanding beneficiaries,” Ntshavheni stated.

She also reassured the public that only 800,000 beneficiaries were yet to make the switch and expressed confidence that the latest extension would be enough to finalize the process.

Additionally, Ntshavheni highlighted that Postbank has already met eight out of the nine requirements set by the South African Reserve Bank for paying social grants, with the last step being the physical replacement of the gold cards.

With this latest extension, beneficiaries now have more time to ensure they receive their grants without disruption.
