Police Officer Gunned Down in Klerksdorp: Sergeant Fundiswa Motlhaoleng’s Tragic Death
In a tragic incident on January 14, 2025, Sergeant Fundiswa Motlhaoleng, 45, a dedicated member of the Jouberton Visible Policing Unit, was shot and killed in broad daylight in Klerksdorp, North West. Motlhaoleng, who was on her way to work and driving her private vehicle at the time, became the victim of a senseless attack that has left the police community and her family grieving.
The incident occurred on Taljaart Kruger Street in the Randlespark area, where Motlhaoleng was gunned down while fully uniformed. Police spokesperson Brigadier Sebata Makgwabone confirmed that preliminary reports suggest the suspects, traveling in a black Volkswagen Polo with four occupants, fled the scene at high speed.
Investigators found evidence at the scene, including three empty cartridges and an ammunition. Motlhaoleng’s body was discovered with gunshot wounds to her jaw and hand, indicating the severity of the attack.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) is handling the case, but as of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear. The acting police commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, condemned the killing, calling it a senseless act that undermines the work of law enforcement officers who strive to protect the community.
“Our thoughts are with Sergeant Motlhaoleng’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Asaneng. “Her loss will have a significant impact on the force, and we are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
In light of the tragedy, the acting commissioner has instructed investigators to prioritize the case and to ensure that the suspects are apprehended. He also urged officers to remain vigilant at all times, both on and off duty, as they continue to serve and protect the public.
Sergeant Fundiswa Motlhaoleng’s death serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers daily in their line of duty. The police community and the public await justice as the investigation continues.
