Fiery Crash Between Fuel Tanker and Bus on N1

Four people lost their lives, and nine others were injured after a fuel tanker collided with a passenger bus on the N1 in Limpopo’s Waterberg district on Sunday morning.
The accident happened around 6:50 a.m. on March 24 and was reported to the Emergency Communication Centre shortly after 7 a.m. Tshwane Emergency Services Department spokesperson Lindsay Zwelithini Mnguni, firefighters arrived to find both vehicles engulfed in flames.
“The bus, which was carrying passengers, and the fuel tanker, with only the driver onboard, were already fully alight when emergency personnel arrived,” Mnguni said, as reported by The Citizen.Emergency responders from the Bela-Bela Local Municipality Fire Brigade Services, supported by a fire engine and a rapid intervention unit, worked to contain the blaze.

Mnguni, the crash involved 119 people, including the truck driver. Four individuals succumbed to their injuries, while nine others sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. One person was critically injured, while 104 passengers managed to escape unharmed.
Multiple ambulance services transported the injured to Bela-Bela and Jubilee district hospitals for medical attention, News 24 reported.
Law enforcement agencies, including the South African Police Service and the National Traffic Police, were on-site to secure the area, enforce road closures, and investigate the cause of the crash.
Limpopo Transport and Community Safety Department spokesperson Tidimalo Chuene confirmed that a full investigation is underway to establish the cause of the collision and ensure accountability.
Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously as the investigation into the deadly accident continues.
