Five Bodies Pulled From Hennops River as Police Intensify Search for Missing Officers

The search for three missing police officers has taken a grim turn as five bodies have now been recovered from the Hennops River in Centurion, Gauteng. The discovery was made on Tuesday, deepening fears around the fate of the missing officers and raising serious questions about the circumstances surrounding their disappearance.

The three SAPS constables—30-year-old Keamogetswe Buys, 20-year-old Boipelo Senoge, and 24-year-old Cebekhulu Linda—vanished without a trace last Thursday after being last seen at an Engen fuel station along the N1 in Gauteng. They were reportedly en route from the Free State to Limpopo, traveling in a white Volkswagen Polo with registration number JCL 401 FS.

Soon after they left the station, their phones and vehicle tracking devices were mysteriously switched off, cutting off all communication.

On Tuesday, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, the deputy national police commissioner for crime detection, confirmed to journalists at the scene that five bodies had been retrieved from the river—four earlier in the day and one later in the afternoon.

“We have four bodies so far, and two are unrelated to the situation we are investigating,” said Sibiya. One of the bodies is believed to be that of a white person, based on a tip-off received from nearby golfers who spotted the remains.

Despite the gruesome discoveries, the missing VW Polo has yet to be found, which police say is a “serious cause for concern.”

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, national police spokesperson, stressed that the identities of the bodies recovered had not yet been confirmed. “We are searching for another body and for any other evidence that will assist us in concluding the case of the missing police officers,” she said.

The SAPS has been conducting intensive search and rescue operations in and around the Hennops River, deploying helicopters and ground teams in the hope of uncovering critical leads.

The tragic development has left families, colleagues, and the public gripped by uncertainty as the search continues for both the missing officers and their vehicle.
