Magesi FC win again as Da Gama eyes Sekhukhune showdown

Magesi FC are on a hot streak, and coach Owen Da Gama believes it’s their unity—not star power—that’s behind the surge. After a gutsy 2-1 win over TS Galaxy on Sunday at the Seshego Stadium, Da Gama was full of praise for a squad that has now won four matches in a row.

John Mokone and Delano Abrahams struck the decisive goals for Magesi, cancelling out Kamogelo Sebelebele’s first-half effort for Galaxy. More importantly, the win cemented Magesi’s dominance at Seshego Stadium, where they’ve now won six consecutive matches—a venue fast becoming their fortress.

Da Gama credited the turnaround to teamwork and discipline rather than individual talent.
“We might not have the best or most experienced players, but what we do have is a team,” he said post-match. “They play for each other, support each other, and it’s that collective mentality that has made the difference.”

The coach emphasized that the squad’s recent success is rooted in weeks of hard work, with a renewed focus on cohesion both on and off the field.
“We’ve worked extremely hard over the last three weeks, and now we’re seeing the results. It’s not about brilliance from one player—it’s about moving as a unit and building a team that wants to win together,” he added.

Sunday’s win has pushed Magesi closer to the top half of the Betway Premiership table. They sit 11th but are now just two points behind eighth-placed Kaizer Chiefs. Despite the close gap, Da Gama isn’t allowing his side to get distracted by standings or speculation.

“We’re not thinking about the log. You’ll waste time with calculations,” he said. “Our focus is solely on our next game, which is against Sekhukhune United on May 3. That’s all that matters now.”
