The Randburg Magistrate’s Court has extended the bail of Longwe Twala, the son of renowned music producer Chicco Twala, and placed him under house arrest from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. until his trial concludes.

The decision follows Longwe’s charge of contempt of court after he missed a scheduled hearing on October 25, related to the alleged theft of his father’s studio equipment. Longwe explained that he was unwell and had asked his aunt to inform the court of his condition.

Magistrate Abdul Khan ruled that Longwe’s explanation was reasonable, and since he was found at the address he had provided, it was determined he had not breached his bail conditions. As a result, his bail has been extended, and he will remain at his aunt’s home in Diepkloof.

However, Magistrate Khan made it clear that Longwe would face arrest if he violated the conditions of his bail, which include restrictions on consuming drugs or alcohol. He was also warned that random substance testing could occur, and he is forbidden from entering his father’s premises.

This legal matter stems from a theft complaint filed by Chicco Twala, accusing both Longwe and his younger brother, Sello, of breaking into his home and stealing over R200,000 worth of recording equipment, along with other valuables like clothes and household items, while he was away on business.

This is not Longwe’s first encounter with the authorities. In 2020, he was handed over to the Diepkloof police for allegedly stealing a cellphone. The case has now been postponed to February 25, 2025.
