Limpopo Police Arrest Three Illegal Miners, Seize R16 Million Worth of Equipment

Three alleged illegal miners, aged 28 to 48, have been arrested by police in Limpopo after a joint operation targeting illegal mining activities. The operation, led by the Hawks alongside SAPS Waterberg’s illegal mining task team, the local criminal record center, and the tactical response team, resulted in the seizure of equipment valued at over R16 million.
On Tuesday, police conducted a disruptive operation at Zwartkop in Thabazimbi, where they discovered eight excavators in use for illegal mining. The authorities swiftly arrested the three suspects at the scene. In addition to the mining equipment, one of the suspects was allegedly found to be in South Africa illegally. The arrested men are expected to appear in court on Thursday, facing charges related to illegal mining and violations of the Immigration Act.
