Police in Limpopo are conducting an intensive manhunt after a harrowing attack on two nurses on duty at the Chuene Clinic. The women were abducted at gunpoint, assaulted, and raped in an ordeal that has shocked the province.

According to reports, a heavily armed man stormed the Chuene Clinic around 1 a.m. on Friday. He overpowered and tied up three security guards before targeting the two nurses, who were working the night shift.

The nurses endured hours of terror before reappearing around 5 a.m. The incident has left them severely traumatized, both physically and emotionally.

Limpopo MEC for Health, Dieketseng Mashego, expressed outrage over the attack, calling it a “barbaric act” that undermines the community and healthcare workers.

“This deplorable incident is a serious setback to our department’s efforts to ensure that clinics can function 24 hours a day,” Mashego stated. “How can we convince our staff to work night shifts to serve the community if the same community turns against them in such a violent manner?”

Mashego extended her support to the victims, ensuring that psychological assistance is being provided. She vowed that her department, in collaboration with law enforcement, will not rest until the perpetrator is brought to justice.

The MEC urged the local community to assist authorities in identifying and apprehending the suspect.

“This incident is not just an attack on our clinic; it is an affront to the very fabric of our community,” Mashego emphasized. “The individuals responsible for this crime are not strangers; they may be living among us. Surely, as community members, we must know something.”

She called for unity, asking residents to share any information with police and support the ongoing investigation.

The attack highlights the vulnerability of healthcare workers, particularly those on night shifts. The incident poses a significant challenge to Limpopo’s efforts to ensure 24-hour clinic operations.

Police are actively investigating the case, while law enforcement officials continue their search for the suspect.

Mashego reiterated her department’s commitment to ensuring the safety of healthcare workers and rebuilding trust in the affected community.
