Limpopo’s Most Wanted Criminals Killed in Shoot-Out with Police

Two of Limpopo’s most wanted suspects were shot and killed in a dramatic gunfight with police after being tracked down in the bushes near the R555 regional road in Ga-Mampuru. The pair, who had terrorised communities in Capricorn and Sekhukhune, met their end on Tuesday, following a high-level police operation acting on intelligence.
High-Stakes Police Operation
According to Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the takedown was executed by a specialised task force comprising members from the Provincial Tracking Team, Provincial Investigations Unit, Polokwane Tactical Response Team, Masemola K9 Unit, Polokwane Air Wing, Lebowakgomo detectives, and the Lebowakgomo Task Team.
When officers confronted the suspects, the men opened fire, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
“Police retaliated, and one of the suspects was fatally wounded. He was found in possession of a pistol with ammunition. He is yet to be identified but is estimated to be between 30 and 35 years old,” said Mashaba.
The second suspect, believed to be aged between 30 and 40, attempted to escape but was pursued and shot after firing at officers.
“He was found in possession of an R5 rifle with live ammunition, a 9mm pistol, and 12 cellphones, believed to be stolen,” Mashaba added.
Linked to Heinous Crimes
One of the slain suspects was a fugitive who had escaped from Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on March 17, 2023, while facing charges of rape, housebreaking, and robbery.
Both men were linked to multiple violent crimes, including the murder of a Limpopo Highway Patrol Sergeant, during which they stole three rifles. They faced more than ten serious charges, including murder, rape, house robbery, and kidnapping in areas such as Lebowakgomo, Magatle, Sekhukhune, and Mankweng.
The police operation marks a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in Limpopo, with authorities vowing to continue cracking down on dangerous criminals.
