48-Year-Old Man Arrested for Brutally Murdering Stepdaughter in Limpopo

A 48-year-old man is set to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges of murder following the brutal killing of his 14-year-old stepdaughter in Ga-Thoka village, located outside the Mankweng policing precinct in Limpopo’s Capricorn district.
The incident took place on Friday morning, when the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was on her way to school with a fellow learner. The accused, her stepfather, approached her and attacked her without warning. He stabbed the young girl multiple times with a sharp object, leaving her helpless on the road.
Emergency medical services were called to the scene after the police arrived. They found the victim lying in a pool of blood while still dressed in her school uniform. Tragically, she was declared dead at the scene.
Following the brutal attack, police launched an immediate search for the suspect. He was eventually located in Polokwane and arrested.
According to provincial police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, a preliminary investigation revealed that the stepfather had a domestic dispute with the victim’s mother the previous night, which may have contributed to the violent incident.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner of Police, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has condemned the attack as a tragic case of domestic and gender-based violence. This latest incident highlights the ongoing struggle to address violence within households.
In a separate case last year, a 37-year-old man was also charged with the murder of his 13-year-old stepson in Rustenburg, further underlining the prevalence of such horrific acts.
