Limpopo Man Arrested for Rape During 16 Days of Activism

A 26-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his 18-year-old ex-girlfriend in Kubyana Village, Limpopo. The assault occurred on November 23, coinciding with South Africa’s 16 Days of Activism campaign.

Details of the Attack

The suspect confronted the victim and her boyfriend at a tavern. He threatened the boyfriend with a knife and chased him away. He then assaulted the victim, dragged her into the bushes, and raped her. The suspect allegedly forced the victim to perform additional acts before taking her to his home.

Police Swiftly Act

After the victim confided in her mother, authorities were notified. The case was handed over to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit. Police arrested the suspect on the same day.

A Call for Action Against GBV

This case comes during South Africa’s 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children. The country remains committed to raising awareness and taking action against gender-based violence. The accused will appear in the Ga-Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on November 25.
