Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba confirmed that the fire broke out around 10pm. It was security guards on duty who first spotted the flames and alerted emergency responders.
When fire crews arrived, the fire had already reached the second floor of the building, which was being used to store clothing. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and the structure was confirmed to be non-residential.
“The building was not occupied for living purposes, and no one was harmed,” said Radebe-Kgiba.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
