City Power Announces 8-Hour Planned Power Outages Across Johannesburg This Weekend

Johannesburg residents are advised to brace for scheduled power outages this weekend as City Power carries out essential network maintenance across multiple suburbs. The planned interruptions, which will take place between Thursday and Sunday, are part of the utility provider’s ongoing efforts to improve service reliability and infrastructure.
According to official notices issued by City Power, the power cuts will occur in blocks of 8 hours, starting from either 8am to 4pm or 9am to 5pm, depending on the area. Load shedding remains suspended during this period, so these outages are strictly for maintenance purposes.
Areas Affected by the Johannesburg Power Outages:
Thursday – Olivedale Area (Region B):
From 9am to 5pm, residents in the Olivedale area will experience power outages due to maintenance at the Olivedale Substation.

A previously planned outage has been rescheduled for Saturday, from 8am to 2pm, impacting key industrial zones.

City Power Safety Advisory
City Power is urging all residents to remain cautious throughout the scheduled outages.
“As the supply may be restored at any time, customers are urged to always treat their electricity supply points as live,” the utility said in a statement.
While the utility acknowledges the inconvenience caused, it stresses that this maintenance work is vital for long-term network stability.
