The City of Johannesburg’s Group Finance Department recently held a successful Open Day in Region E, reinforcing its commitment to accessible and transparent service delivery. The event took place at the Sandton Customer Service Centre, where residents had the opportunity to engage directly with municipal officials to resolve account issues, register for the Expanded Social Package (ESP), and receive assistance with billing, valuations, rates, and refunds. In addition, City Power and Joburg Water were on hand to address service-related concerns.

Cllr Margaret Arnolds, the MMC for Finance, praised the success of the event, calling it a significant step in improving service delivery and strengthening the relationship between the City and its residents. A key focus was helping elderly and vulnerable residents register for the Expanded Social Package, which offers rebates on essential services like water and electricity.

“We are prioritizing helping pensioners and low-income households access these benefits to ensure no one is left behind,” said MMC Arnolds.

Residents appreciated the initiative, with some sharing positive feedback. Ms. Pillay, for example, expressed her satisfaction after resolving a long-standing billing issue and receiving a credit of R150,000. “If you have any issues, attending the Open Day is the best way to get them resolved,” she said.

Another resident noted, “The City’s officials were welcoming, and despite the wait, the staff did their best to assist me.”

The Group Finance Open Day, which began in October last year, will continue across all regions of Johannesburg. “These events empower our communities and promote a culture of accountability and trust,” concluded MMC Arnolds.

The success of the Region E Open Day underscores the City’s dedication to proactive service delivery and inclusive governance, ensuring essential services are brought closer to the community while fostering financial transparency and accountability.
