Ombudsman Launches Citizen Information Clinics Across Johannesburg

The Office of the Ombudsman for the City of Johannesburg is set to launch its Citizen Information Clinics Programme on Thursday, 13 February 2025, at Eastbank Hall in Alexandra. This seven-week initiative, themed “Here to Hear You,” will span all seven regions of the city, aiming to educate residents about their constitutional rights to fair and efficient municipal services.

Advocate Siduduzo Gumede, Johannesburg Ombudsman, emphasized the importance of these clinics in bridging the gap between the city and its residents.

“Effective service delivery is a catalyst for change. By creating platforms like our clinics, we, as an office of last resort, can help bridge the gap between the city and its residents while encouraging active citizenship. Last year, we welcomed thousands of residents from across the city, and this year we hope to reach even more as we expand our regional presence and contribute to accelerating service delivery within the Joburg Metro.”

The programme also fosters collaboration between city departments, entities, and Chapter 9 institutions, such as the Consumer Goods and Services Ombuds, the Socio-Economic Rights Institute of South Africa (SERI), and the South African Human Rights Commission. These organizations will be on-site, offering free legal consultations and expert guidance.

Residents are encouraged to attend the sessions to voice their concerns, seek guidance, and access a wealth of resources, including information on how to lodge complaints and their human rights responsibilities.
