New Johannesburg Children’s Choir Launches Auditions for Young Talent in Randburg

The Johannesburg Children’s Choir is officially holding auditions! Led by Elana Neethling, a legendary choir conductor with over 24 years of experience, this new choir aims to bring talented voices together and offer them amazing performing opportunities.

Why Start a Choir for Kids?

After moving to Joburg from Pretoria, Neethling noticed a strong need for children’s choirs outside school programs. She saw that the choir scene in Joburg was still developing. To help, she created an opportunity for young voices aged 9 to 14 to shine! “It’s my favorite age to work with because kids show raw talent that blossoms over time,” she says.

Auditions Are Open!

Neethling is currently auditioning kids from schools across Randburg. She’s looking for those with potential and a passion for singing. Also, the choir will be a mix of students from different schools and backgrounds, truly making it a community-based group. Practices will happen at Domus Dei Church in Blairgowrie, which makes it accessible for many Randburg families.

What’s in Store for the Choir?

The Johannesburg Children’s Choir already has exciting performances lined up! In April, they’re set to perform a three-evening series with the popular artist Jo Black. And in the future, Neethling has even bigger plans. The choir hopes to compete in international choir competitions, aiming to showcase Joburg’s young talents on a global stage.

Neethling’s experience speaks for itself. Over her career, she has conducted choirs of all ages. Her groups have frequently earned top honors in competitions, including the ATKV-Applous Choir Competition and Con Spiritu National Choir Competition. Additionally, she led a choir to a gold medal at the 2018 World Choir Games!
