City of Joburg Urges Residents to Update Contact Details to Avoid Service Disconnection

The City of Johannesburg is urging municipal account holders to immediately update their contact details to prevent service disruptions. Incorrect or outdated information has made it difficult for the city to deliver statements and service-related notifications, putting some customers at risk of electricity or water disconnection due to missed payments.

Why Updating Your Contact Details is Important

Kgamanyane Maphologela, the city’s Group Finance Department Director of Customer Communications, emphasized that many residents either fail to provide correct contact details or do not update their information, leading to payment delays and service disruptions.

“Customers with outdated contact details risk not receiving their municipal statements on time, making them vulnerable to missing their monthly payment deadlines. Failure to pay on time will result in their services being disconnected,” said Maphologela.

The city is working to cleanse and update all customer account records as part of its commitment to accurate billing and improved service delivery.

Non-Receipt of a Bill is Not an Excuse for Non-Payment

The City of Johannesburg’s credit control and debt collection policy clearly states that not receiving a municipal invoice does not absolve customers from paying their accounts.
