on

Residents of several Johannesburg suburbs should prepare for an eight-hour power outage this weekend as City Power conducts essential maintenance work. The planned power interruption will take place on:

Date: Sunday, March 30, 2025
Time: 8 AM – 4 PM
Affected Areas: Mondeor and surrounding suburbs

Which Areas Will Be Affected?

The following Joburg areas will experience the outage:

Mondeor & Extensions
Meredale & Extensions (2, 4, 9, 26)
Ridgeway Extensions (4, 5, 8)
Winchester Hills Ext.1
Alan Manor
Kibler Park
Naturena
Suideroord

City Power has advised residents that the supply may be restored at any time, so all electrical points should be treated as live during the outage.

How to Prepare for the Outage

Unplug Appliances – Prevent power surges when electricity is restored.
Charge Essential Devices – Keep phones, laptops, and power banks fully charged.
Keep Refrigerators Closed – Preserve food by minimizing fridge and freezer openings.
Prepare an Emergency Kit – Include flashlights, batteries, water, a first-aid kit, and medications.
Consider Backup Power – If you rely on electricity for work or medical needs, invest in a generator or power station.

What to Do During the Power Cut?

Make the Most of It! Power cuts can be frustrating, but they also provide an opportunity to enjoy offline activities:
Play board games or card games with family.
Read a book or catch up on writing.
Enjoy a candle-lit dinner or storytelling session.

Why Is This Maintenance Necessary?

City Power stated that the planned work at Mondeor Substation is part of its efforts to enhance network reliability and prevent unplanned outages in the future.
