The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has issued a public alert urging citizens to report any suspected corrupt behaviour among officers. The JMPD’s Internal Affairs Unit is investigating claims where officers are alleged to have solicited bribes from the public, transferring the funds via e-wallet to a “ghost” phone number.
In a statement, the department stressed its commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity and professionalism, vowing to take any allegations of corruption seriously.

“The JMPD will not tolerate any form of corruption within its ranks. These alleged actions are a betrayal of public trust and undermine the department’s commitment to serving the community with integrity,” said JMPD Police Chief Patrick Jaca.
He further warned officers that any involvement in corrupt activities would result in the strictest disciplinary action, including criminal prosecution.
Chief Jaca also cautioned motorists that offering bribes to police officers is a serious offence, and anyone caught doing so would face arrest and legal consequences.
“I urge all citizens to report any instances of corruption so that we can work together to maintain a clean and trustworthy police service,” he added.
The public is encouraged to report any cases of corruption through the JMPD Anti-Fraud and Corruption hotline at 080 020 3712, via WhatsApp at 063 253 1928, or by directly contacting Chief Patrick Jaca at 082 559 3880. The department emphasized its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability within its ranks and thanked the public for their cooperation in combating corruption.
