JMPD Investigates Bogus Officers in Johannesburg

JMPD is probing reports of fake officers operating between Winnie Mandela Drive and Beyers Naudé.
A social media post warned motorists of four individuals, including a woman, posing as officers while driving an unmarked white Quantum and stopping vehicles in the area.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla confirmed that the Tactical Response Unit is handling the investigation.
“The JMPD takes these allegations very seriously. The safety of our residents is our top priority, and we are actively investigating these reports,” Fihla said.
He urged motorists not to stop in isolated areas if they feel unsafe. Instead, they should proceed to the nearest police station to verify the identity of officers who stop them.
Fihla also advised drivers to contact the JMPD or the South African Police Service (SAPS) if they have any doubts about the legitimacy of officers.
“If stopped by individuals claiming to be JMPD officers, motorists should ask to see their official identification, note the vehicle’s registration number, and pay attention to any distinguishing features of the individuals. Any victims or witnesses of suspicious activity should report it to the JMPD at 011 375 5911 or SAPS at 10111.”
