uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party leader Jacob Zuma has threatened to expel his daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, following her public criticism of the party’s secretary-general, Floyd Shivambu. Zuma-Sambudla took to social media, posting a series of scathing comments on X, where she called Shivambu “useless” and expressed her willingness to be removed from the party.

In response, Zuma issued a directive demanding an immediate and unconditional apology from his daughter to Shivambu, the party, and the South African public.

“These posts are insulting towards the secretary-general of uMkhonto weSizwe Party, constituting a direct violation of the party’s Disciplinary Code of Conduct,” Zuma said in a statement.

He further condemned the remarks as “divisive, denigrating, and offensive,” stating that they go against the party’s core values of unity, respect, and discipline.

Zuma made it clear that should Zuma-Sambudla fail to comply, she would face immediate disciplinary consequences.

“Commander Duduzile Zuma must issue an unconditional public apology to the secretary-general, the president, members, supporters of uMkhonto weSizwe and all the people of South Africa,” the statement read.

“She must also extend formal apologies to all structures she serves in or leads, including the Southern Caucus of the Pan-African Parliament.”

Following this, the party will initiate an internal disciplinary process under its constitution and code of conduct. Zuma warned that failure to comply would result in the termination of her membership and removal from all party responsibilities.

“No member, regardless of position, is above the Constitution of uMkhonto weSizwe,” he emphasized.

Aside from party disciplinary threats, Zuma-Sambudla is also entangled in legal proceedings linked to the July 2021 riots. She faces charges of incitement to violence under the POCDATARA Act, with her case transferred to the KwaZulu-Natal High Court. She is set to appear on 20 March.

The riots, triggered by Zuma’s arrest, resulted in over 350 deaths and economic losses exceeding R50 billion.
