Injured SANDF Soldiers Repatriated from DRC for Urgent Medical Treatment

A group of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) soldiers injured in combat in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have returned home and are receiving medical care at 1 Military Hospital.
SANDF spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini confirmed that critically wounded soldiers who required urgent treatment had been successfully repatriated.

“The SANDF confirms that the group of critically injured soldiers who needed urgent medical attention have been successfully repatriated from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and will receive high-level medical care,” said Dlamini.
He added that the remaining injured personnel are expected to arrive in South Africa later this week.
The soldiers were part of a peacekeeping mission in the DRC’s Goma region, where South African troops have been engaged in fierce battles against M23 rebels.
Fallen Soldiers Honoured
Meanwhile, the bodies of 14 SANDF members killed in the conflict will be handed over to their families during a ceremony at the Air Force Base Swartkop in Centurion on Thursday.
The soldiers lost their lives between January 23 and 27 while fighting against M23 rebels. The fallen members include:
- Staff Sergeant Shwahlane Theophilus Seepe
- Corporal Rinae Nemavhulani
- Rifleman Mokete Joseph Mobe
- Rifleman Derrick Maluleke
- Rifleman Sebatane Richard Chokoe
- Corporal Matome Justice Malesa
- Lance Bombardier Itumeleng Macdonald Moreo
- Lance Corporal Tseke Moffat Molapo
- Lance Corporal Metse Stansly Raswiswi
- Private Peter Jacobus Strydom
- Staff Sergeant Molahlehi Ishmael Molahlehi
- Staff Sergeant William Eddie Cola
- Rifleman Tshidiso Andries Mabele
- Rifleman Calvin Louis Moagi
Their remains were repatriated earlier this month and will now be formally handed over to their families.
The SANDF has pledged ongoing support for the wounded soldiers and the families of the deceased.
