Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has praised Gauteng police for their successful intervention in preventing two major crimes in Soweto on Tuesday. The police thwarted a cash-in-transit heist and a separate robbery, leading to the deaths of two suspects and the arrest of six others.

During the cash-in-transit incident, a group targeted a van in the area. A shootout ensued between the suspects and the police, resulting in the fatal shooting of two suspects. In another related incident, four other criminals were shot by officers while attempting to steal items from two courier vehicles.

Minister Mchunu’s spokesperson, Kamogelo Mogotsi, reported that police acted swiftly, neutralizing the suspects involved in these dangerous crimes.

Minister Mchunu commended the police for their outstanding coordination and dedication. “The success of these operations is a testament to the commitment of our law enforcement agencies. The fatal wounding of six suspects means that we have removed these active criminals from the streets, preventing potential future crimes including murder and robbery,” said Mchunu.
