Gauteng Police Bust Drug Syndicate in Pretoria, Multiple Suspects Arrested

Police in Gauteng uncovered a significant drug syndicate in Pretoria on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in the arrest of several individuals. Authorities discovered a variety of illegal narcotics, including illicit steroids, scheduled medications, stimulants, and performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) being sold online, The Citzen reported.
Police spokesperson Amanda van Wyk confirmed that a drug syndicate operating in Pretoria was selling illicit steroids, stimulants, and other PEDs online. Several suspects were apprehended across various locations in the city, and the investigation is still ongoing.
“Police have found a drug syndicate selling illicit steroids, scheduled medicine, stimulants, and other performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) to consumers online. A number of suspects have been arrested at different sites in Pretoria. It remains an active scene,” van Wyk stated.
Following a forensic investigation, authorities revealed that one of the drugs sold online as a “fat burner” contained Dimethylphenethylamine, a substance chemically similar to crystal meth, also known as Tik. The investigation into this drug syndicate is still in progress.
Yusuf Abramjee, in a post on X, reported that five suspects, aged between 27 and 54, have been identified and are facing multiple charges. These include violations of the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, the Medicines and Related Substances Act, the Counterfeit Goods Act, and charges of money laundering.

The operation, carried out by the SAPS National Organised Crime Investigations (OCI) Narcotics Unit, was supported by the Gauteng Provincial Narcotics Unit, Crime Intelligence, the South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA), the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport, and the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC).
