A Gauteng nurse, accused of murdering her domestic worker for insurance payouts, allegedly threatened her gardener, warning him,

“I will kill you like I killed my husband,” if he failed to follow her orders.

The shocking revelation was made by investigating officer Sgt Lloyd Ngengenene during a bail hearing at the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court.

Ngengenene opposed bail for Simon Mogale, the gardener-turned-state-witness, arguing that his life would be at risk if released.

“If he gets released, the likelihood of him being killed is high because he is one of the state witnesses,” Ngengenene told the court.

The accused, Sithembile Happiness Xulu, a former nurse at an Alberton clinic, is facing murder charges for the brutal killing of 21-year-old Busisiwe Nxumalo in January 2022.

Nxumalo’s body was found at a dumpsite in Lenasia South, her throat slit. Investigations revealed that Xulu had taken out multiple life insurance policies in Nxumalo’s name, totaling R6 million. However, the payouts were blocked due to suspected fraud.

Xulu was arrested in June last year at her Vosloorus home, while Mogale was apprehended in Limpopo.

Mogale, who previously applied for bail, made a second bid citing new information about his address and employment status. However, Ngengenene dismissed the claims, revealing that upon investigation, Mogale was no longer employed by EPWP and his sister had been hired in his place.

The officer reiterated that Mogale is a key state witness, making his release a major security risk.

“If he is released, he is a flight risk, and we may never find him again,” Ngengenene concluded.

The court is expected to make a decision on the bail application in the coming days.
