Electricity Minister Attributes Stage 6 Load Shedding to Essential Maintenance

Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has linked the current Stage 6 load shedding to Eskom’s intensified maintenance strategy, aimed at ensuring long-term power stability.

“We are guided by the generation recovery plan, which prioritizes investment in our existing fleet to improve reliability. This required us to increase maintenance levels beyond what we’ve seen in recent history,” Ramokgopa explained.
He acknowledged that the heightened maintenance levels come with risks, but stressed that postponing necessary repairs would lead to even greater failures in the future.
Load Shedding Relief Expected Soon
Ramokgopa assured the public that six of the ten failed units have been restored, and officials expect load shedding to ease by the end of the week.
Dismissing speculation of sabotage, he emphasized that the crisis is purely technical and a result of Eskom’s long-overdue maintenance efforts.
