MK Party MP Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, daughter of party leader Jacob Zuma, has publicly apologised after posting a series of inflammatory tweets aimed at secretary-general Floyd Shivambu. The remarks, which included profanity and strong criticism, led the party to demand that she retract her statements.

In a heated exchange on X (formerly Twitter), Zuma-Sambudla lashed out at Shivambu, who joined the MK Party in August after leaving the EFF. She questioned his role in the party and asserted her own influence.

“Floyd, I’m not scared of you. Tell your minions to f*** off, bloody mafikizolos [newcomers],” she wrote.

She went on to directly insult Shivambu, stating, “F** you, Floyd,” and even called him the “worst thing that happened to the MK Party.”

Anticipating possible consequences, she added, “They will expel me tomorrow. It is well with my soul. Still, Floyd is useless.”

Following pressure from the MK Party leadership, Zuma-Sambudla issued an apology, acknowledging that her remarks had been inappropriate.

“As a committed and disciplined member of the MK Party, I hereby extend this unconditional public apology to President Zuma and the MK Party leadership for the profanity used in my recent posts on X,” she stated.

She admitted that while she holds strong personal views, including concerns about party matters and leadership decisions, she now understands that such grievances should be handled internally.

“I fully recognise that such concerns should have been and shall be addressed through the proper internal channels, as dictated by the core values and principles of the glorious movement of the people,” she said.

Zuma-Sambudla further conceded that her social media outburst may have undermined party unity and discipline.

In her apology, she reassured the MK Party and its supporters that she had no intention of damaging the organisation’s integrity.

“To President Zuma, the entire leadership, members, supporters of the MK Party, and the people of South Africa, I wish to assure you that I never intended to harm the integrity of the party or the values it upholds. Hence, my deepest apology for any offence caused.”

She also pledged to cooperate with any internal disciplinary processes the party might initiate, reaffirming her commitment to the MK Party’s principles of unity, respect, and discipline.

“I offer formal apologies to all the structures I serve in, whose roles and responsibilities I carry with the utmost humility and commitment. I hope my apology is received in the spirit of accountability, revolutionary solidarity, and a genuine commitment to upholding the values of the MK Party.”

Zuma-Sambudla’s apology signals an attempt to mend relationships within the party, though it remains to be seen whether further action will be taken against her.
