Foreign national arrested at Beitbridge for explosives worth R300,000

Police at the Beitbridge border post in Musina arrested a 37-year-old foreign national on Thursday night after uncovering boxes of illegal explosives during a routine vehicle inspection.
The arrest was made at the South Gate of the busy port of entry in Limpopo’s Vhembe District. Officers stopped a white truck with Gauteng number plates and, during a search, found two boxes containing explosives valued at approximately R300,000.
Preliminary findings suggest the truck was headed to Gauteng.

Swift response leads to major seizure
Police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the arrest and said the vehicle had been confiscated.
Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the officers for their vigilance.
“This is a major breakthrough in our ongoing efforts to combat crime and protect communities,” said Hadebe. “We remain committed to tightening security at all border points to stop the smuggling of illegal items.”
Court appearance pending as investigation continues
The suspect is expected to appear soon in the Musina Magistrate’s Court, where he will face charges related to the possession of illegal explosives.
Police investigations are still underway to determine the origin and intended use of the explosives.
