Motorists Advised to Avoid President Fouché Road Due to Severe Flooding

Motorists are being urged to avoid President Fouché Road this morning (February 11) as severe flooding has made the route unsafe for travel. The dip between Boskruin and CR Swart Drive is submerged in both directions, creating hazardous conditions for those attempting to use the road.
The flooding is believed to have been caused by a blocked curb inlet, and at least one vehicle has already become stranded, facing oncoming traffic. Motorists traveling from Boskruin to Malibongwe, or vice versa, are advised to seek alternative routes to avoid the flooded area.
Ward councillor Ralf Bittkau has confirmed that the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) has been notified and is preparing to dispatch a team to assess the situation. While efforts to resolve the flooding are underway, it remains unclear how long it will take for the water to subside and for necessary repairs to be completed.
This latest incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness of stormwater management in the area. The section of President Fouché Road between Boskruin and CR Swart Drive has had recurring drainage issues, with a recently repaired pothole contributing to the ongoing problems. The current flooding highlights the need for further attention to these infrastructure concerns.
Local authorities continue to monitor the situation, and emergency services are on standby. Motorists are strongly advised to exercise caution when driving in wet conditions and to avoid attempting to cross flooded roads. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
