Suspended ATNS CEO Nozipho Mdawe Faces Investigation Amid Staffing and System Concerns

Nozipho Mdawe, the suspended CEO of Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS), will learn her fate in up to six weeks after being placed on precautionary suspension. The suspension follows an investigation into her performance as CEO, amid growing concerns about inefficiencies within the state-owned company, including critical staffing shortages and unreliable navigation systems.
An independent law firm has been appointed to conduct the investigation into Mdawe’s conduct. Minister of Transport, Barbara Creecy, met with the ATNS board and management in Johannesburg on Monday to discuss the ongoing challenges at the company. ATNS board chairperson Zola Majavu was also present.
Creecy stated that the terms of reference for the investigation have now been finalized, and the procurement process will begin once she signs the terms. The investigation is expected to be completed within four to six weeks.
